Case Management & Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Contractor Position Available

Family Empowerment Project (FEP)

REPORTS TO

Director of Training & Community Engagement

PURPOSE & PERSPECTIVE

To support the Center for Dispute Settlement’s existing work and contractual obligations with Monroe County Family Access Connection Team (FACT) & Monroe County Youth Probation. Services are not intended as a consequence for youth or their families. Rather, they are opportunities for empowerment and recognition, through which participants are able to find their own solutions to conflict and prevent additional contact with the Criminal Justice System. Youth and their families are not defined by any action they have taken, even in situations of serious harm. The humanity of everyone involved must be recognized, validated, and upheld. Families who are regularly involved in the Criminal Justice System often become ensnared in generational and interpersonal cycles of harm, conflict, and an inability to meet their own basic needs. This disproportionately affects Black, Brown, and Indigenous peoples and is a result of systemic oppression perpetuated by a legacy and present of settler colonialism and patriarchal white supremacy. The Center for Dispute Settlement recognizes these truths and acknowledges that the FEP and other similarly constructed service-programs are not enough to overcome such entrenched barriers. The purpose of the FEP is to provide young people with an opportunity to self-advocate, give & receive accountability, and develop their own social-emotional skills through participation in ADR services.
