Volunteer of the Month: Cili Phillips

“Mediation is an Add, Add, Not Win, Win” - Cili

We are honored to recognize Cili Phillips as our Volunteer of the Month! Cili is a conflict coach, mentor, trainer, and AmeriCorps member with the Monroe County Office. Cili specializes in divorce and special education mediation.

Cili has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill in her role as a mediator. Her ability to create a safe and supportive space for individuals to express themselves openly and honestly is truly commendable.

Her Favorite Things About Being a Mediator:

  • Helping people find their voice
  • Hearing other points of view
  • Seeing clients’ fear dissipate
  • Seeing openness and honesty unfold as parties mediate
  • Acknowledgment but not necessarily agreement amongst parties
  • Parties reaching a mutually helpful outcome
  • Collaboration over compromise
  • Creative collaboration

Recommendations for New/Aspiring Mediators

  • Engage during training
  • Just go with it
  • Don’t be afraid of the work
  • Don’t worry about not being able to help

Cili has helped to build bridges, foster understanding, and promote lasting resolutions. We are incredibly grateful for Cili’'s contributions to our organization and the community. Her commitment to peace, justice, and understanding inspires us all. Congratulations and thank you, Cili!
